Sergey Grinevich (born in 1960, in the urban settlement of Ros, Grodno Oblast, Belarus) is a contemporary Belarusian artist.
Sergey Grinevich is a graduate of the Department of Monumental Painting of the Belarusian State Institute of Theater and Arts (1983). The artist works within different strands of monumental-decorative art (wall painting, glass painting, etc.), as well as panel painting.
In the 1980-90’s, Grinevich was interested in op-art, which deals with optical effects and illusions. Today, the artist’s primary subject is the contemporary world in its various manifestations and how changes that take place in the world and society change Man. With his ironic views of reality, Grinevich is more of an attentive observer than a critic. “Mass culture will triumph no matter what. An artist can only pinpoint and expose an issue he is preoccupied with,” says Sergey. “To me it’s important to raise issues others are unable to formulate,” he adds. Elements of op-art can be found in Sergey Grinevich’s works at present too; also, his works draw the eye by the brightness of colors he uses. The artist confesses that color is a profound symbol, which complements the gist of what is painted. Placing himself between contemporary and traditional art, Sergey Grinevich notes, “There is no specific image I seek to epitomize in my paintings, but there is an entire cosmos of signs and significations”.
Sergey Grinevich is exhibited in Belarus and Russia, as well as in Europe. He also represents his country at large international art-forums. The artist’s works are part of private collections in Belarus and overseas.
