Robert and Lynn Bianchi, Alex Nero: Substance in Motion
August, 14th- September, 13th
New York, NY, August 14th 2015: Shchukin Gallery is proud to introduce our most recent summer project entitled Substance in Motion, featuring the photography series Worlds of Wonder by Robert Bianchi and the multimedia installation Motion Beyond Surface by Lynn Bianchi. The inspiration for this project comes from exploring the human tool of memory. In remembrance of past acts and events, of people and laws, an artist may create a space in which the essence of memory is reflected and even captured. A single moment can be experienced by two separate people, but perceived through the instrument of memory in various forms. Through Substance in Motion, we are interested in our artists’ visualization, and ultimate construction of memory in relation to the natural human condition. We are intrigued by Robert Bianchi’s and Lynn Bianchi’s individual interpretations of this cognitive asset we all posses, but may never fully scrutinize.
For Robert Bianchi the world of memory is a world of ideas in which the past is inextricably merged with the future. Through this deep search within his work for the uncontainable concept of time, Robert Bianchi’s series Worlds of Wonder explores the boundaries of that which bridges the metaphysical and physical. The astrophysics speaks to us of multi dimensional universes, of strings and parallel realities. He believes our world is yet to be defined. We are in a state of flux as we search for meaning. And as knowledge grows, it is within visual forms Robert Bianchi sees answers that words find elusive. Robert Bianchi’s artworks represent what cannot be represented, the intangible and undefined (Moving in Realities, 2003); and as his bodies travel and are transported in a surreal quest for meaning (Swirling in Space, 2003) so does his imagination.
In her work, Lynn Bianchi is captivated by the eternal and monumental in the quotidian. Her work is born through a dialogue between her own memories and an archetypical vision of human expressions, which in turn represents humanities relationship with nature. Lynn Bianchi captures the natural world in its multiple forms and times, and is able to convey complex and universal feelings in a simple and immediate way. Transient concepts such as beauty, a sense of peace, and the connection with the environment, are synthetized in harmonious ways. The artworks showcased as part of the Substance in Motion exhibition additionally play with the tension between chance and the deliberate (Coney Island Allison, 2013); highlight a fundamental attachment to the energy of life (Contemplation, 2008-2010; Irina’s Sunrise, 2013) and finally reconfigure the act of observing as an eternal source of pleasure, relaxation, and fascination (Eternity, 2013).
