Ilya Kabakov (born 1933, Dnepropetrvsk, USSR) is a Ukrainian artist. He graduated from the Moscow Secondary Art School and completed his studies at the Surikov Art Institute in 1957. He was an illustrator for children's books and participated in the "Twenty Moscow Artists Show" in 1975. The ideology of his artwork is to question and challenge political authority and propaganda, to disrupt social norms. He is an extremely important artist in the non-conformist movement and has been exhibited internationally. He currently lives in New York City.
